Lorena Perez McGill Formally Enters the Race for Texas House of Representatives District 15

The Woodlands, Tx., Jan. 27 — Ms. Lorena Perez McGill, a lawyer from The Woodlands, officially kicked off her campaign on Sunday Jan 28, at a local family restaurant. Lorena is a skilled problem-solver who’s excited to put her passion and professional training to work for ALL residents of Texas House District 15.

“It is time to stop fighting and start fixing,” said Perez McGill.
Lorena is a fiscally conservative, moderate Democrat who grew tired of the unproductive fighting in Austin and wants to start fixing the real problems that affect every-day Texans. She wants to serve District 15 by delivering practical leadership on local issues with common sense policies that improve funding for public schools, allow better access to healthcare, and ensure responsible development policies to mitigate flood risks.
“District 15’s economic vitality is built on our ability to continue to attract people and companies from around the world to live and grow here. The tax revenue from both new and long-time residents helps to pay for our schools, infrastructure and public services. We need a representative who understands that and can advocate for State-level policies that best support our communities and ensure new residents feel welcome.”

Lorena says that residents she talks with are concerned that taxes have been steadily rising, but many schools in District 15 continue to be severely underfunded. “Education is profoundly important to a child’s ability to rise to a happy and healthy adulthood. My kids attend a great public school in the Conroe Independent School District, but many districts beyond The Woodlands need more help. We must make sure we have top talent and that teachers are compensated appropriately. I also want to ensure that kids with disabilities have the access to education they deserve. Improvements like these will attract new families to our area—securing even better funding long-term.” said Lorena.

A groundswell of enthusiasm for Lorena’s message is apparent. Since announcing her candidacy last month, she has raised more than $40,000 from more than three dozen individual donors. Many of Lorena’s supporters are expected to join Sunday’s official campaign kick-off gathering.
Rob Johnson, 2017 Hometown hero and vice chair for Interfaith of The Woodlands Board of Directors, has endorsed Lorena, “My good friend Lorena Perez McGill is running for Texas House District 15. She’s an incredibly impressive person who finds ways to solve problems by working together. What a concept!”
An attorney and adjunct faculty member at the University of Houston Law Center, Lorena has expertise in resolving complicated disputes between companies, governments, and individuals. Before moving her family to The Woodlands, she was a lawyer at the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C.; and previously, at Baker Botts LLP, with their litigation, corporate, and environmental groups. Lorena holds a L.L.M from Georgetown University Law Center and a J.D. from Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra in the Dominican Republic.

Lorena is also a passionate champion for children and families. She is a mom and a wife, a resident of The Woodlands, a Latina immigrant, and a proud US Citizen. She serves as pro-bono counsel at Kids in Need of Defense, Lone Star Legal Aid, the Montgomery County Women’s Center, and the CARA Pro Bono Project. She also volunteers at Traffick911 and through Trinity Episcopal Church.
Lorena strongly believes our democracy serves citizens best when voters have choices at the polls, so it is fitting that she will be the first Democrat on the ballot for District 15 in twelve years.

Lorena and her husband Brian moved to The Woodlands three years ago with ExxonMobil, and have fallen in love with their hometown and its community.
